What is required in the live fire test?

To begin with, it is a basic firearms proficiency test - not a requirement that you demonstrate expert-level accuracy. Don't fret this too much.  You will be receiving patient one-on-one attention from your instructor.

Can you load the gun, fire it, hit the target, reload it,  and do it safely?
That's what we're looking for.

More specifically,  for handguns with capacities of (6) rounds or greater you must fire 30 rounds at three distances: 3, 5, and 7 yards.

For handguns with capacities of less than (6) rounds you must fire 25 rounds at three distances.

Per the Nevada Sheriff's and Chief's Association (NSCA)
here are the official standards for the course of fire:

 CCW FIREARMS QUALIFICATION:

The following is the minimum basic course requirement:

For 6 shot or greater capacity:

3 yards 6 rounds No time limit Freestyle
5 yards 12 rounds No time limit Freestyle
7 yards 12 rounds No time limit Freestyle

For 5-shot or under capacity:

3 yards 5 rounds No time limit Freestyle
5 yards 10 rounds No time limit Freestyle
7 yards 10 rounds No time limit Freestyle
Firearms with less than a 5-shot capacity will have to be reloaded at each stage to comply with the 5-shot capacity standards.
A total of 30 rounds for 6 shot or larger capacity, or 25 rounds for 5 shot capacity must be fired.
A 70% minimum must be scored to pass, and shall be indicated on the certificate as Pass/Fail only.
The humanoid target, B27 or B21 shall be utilized.
Additional training as provided for combat shooting, self defense or practical shooting is at the discretion of the instructor.

More about the B-27 silhouette targets

 B-27s are very large targets - 23" wide x 45" tall.

You will be firing from a distance of no more than 21 feet, which is the distance from the front bumper to the rear bumper of a full size, crew cab, long bed, Ford, Chevy, or Dodge pickup truck.

No worries! You will do just fine! We are here to help you improve your skill and score, not to simply act as passive scorekeepers.

Plus, you will have an opportunity for a warm-up practice session before you fire for your official qualification test.  We take the time to work with each and every student. Remember, we don't run an "assembly line" training school.
